I'm a little behind in my X-mas sewing. I just finished my sister's present. I've decided that I'm not going to be ruled by the calendar anymore (at least that's what I'm telling everyone). She got an ipad air and I made her a cute, little, zippered, sleeping bag for it and a messenger bag for her to put that into, too.
I love this fabric, Piper by Dear Stella, I mean, these colors? C'mon. Gorgeous. My sister loves purple, orange and green - I usually buy fabric for her around Halloween time. The green on the inside is a different line and I also had to use the glasses from Geekly Chic - so geeky and awesome. I used straight line quilting to add interest and the pattern is... well, there is no pattern. I made both items from my mind. I did look at some patterns and other designs, of course, but I didn't use a pattern to construct the bags. I just need to iron the whole thing and have her come and pick it up.
As I was struggling with making an adjustable strap, I found ChrisW Designs blog and her Bag Brag Tuesday posts. Great blog about bags - I enjoyed checking out all of the tutorials and there was a lot of helpful posts there, check it out. I will be linking up to her and to Sew Much Ado's We Did It Wednesday. I'll probably link up to Crazy Mom on Friday, too - since it is a finish (Whoo-hoo!!)

A legitimate Friday finish!
I have completed my garden fence top. I love it. I'm keeping it - for me! MINE. I love the cool, beachy colors and overall feeling the quilt envokes. It's very calming and tranquil. I wasn't a fan of the garden fence design, but these blocks are really lovely together.
I visited my LQS yesterday and picked up some really nice Robert Kaufman butterfly fabric and a pretty floral for the back - the idea being the flowers and butterflies are just behind the garden fence. I can't wait to quilt it. I have big ideas for this, too. I want to try my hand at some pebble quilting. I really hope I can pull it off and not ruin my beautiful quilt top.
And without further ado, I present my garden fence quilt:
I would like it if I could make it just a few more inches larger. I may add another border, I can't decide. It's measuring about 52" square. I'm not always a fan of a square quilt, but I could handle it if it were a wee bit larger. We'll see what happens.
Linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts.
Have a great weekend. As always, make something.

WIP Wednesday
It's Work in Progress Wednesday and I'm stuck at work. I'd love to be at home sewing and knitting and enjoying the sunny day, but I'm here setting up webinars and video conferences. Sure, it all seems glamorous and wonderful, but it's not. It's not so easy bein' an IT professional/Green - whichever you prefer at this moment.
I think this is residual funk from Monday. I really need to get over this hump - what do I do?? I think I'm going to have to have another giveaway to get some more readers.
funkity funk-funk

Up from here - another finish
I joined the Sew, Mama, Sew! block of the month and made the Up From Here block tonight. I love the fabric. I didn't have enough so I made the block smaller. It finishes at about 14.5" instead of 24", but I love it anyway.
I don't know what to make of this block - I suppose I could make more of them, but I don't know if I want a whole quilt like this.
Penelope is threatening to wake up. I really hope she doesn't because she would find all her Easter presents in front of her door if she does.
I need to get to sleep - It's 2:45 AM - don't you just love insomnia?
Sleep on!

Fabric. Fabric. Fabric.
Like most quilters, I have a little bit of a fabric addiction. My order from Fat Quarter Shop arrived two days ago and I'm in love. I can't bear to take the stuff out of it's packaging - I just want to look it - all lovely and arranged... it truly is a site to behold:
I did start laying out some granny squares from my Flirt mini charm pack:
I like how they are turning out so far. I don't have too many more mini charms, so I can't make anymore of these, but I will get more, and three blocks would make a lovely table runner. I'm going to start sewing that tonight.
I'm also thinking about what to do with the squares I've received so far from the Simply Modern Bee:
I was thinking about doing a big, granny square layout. I would just have to make two more blocks (since you need 13 for a granny square). I think that would look awesome. I can't wait for my other blocks to show up. Do people often flake out on the bees? This is my first one. I already made all my blocks and sent them off because I was worried about being a slacker. Oh well! I can only hope I don't have to make a ton more of these to finish my quilt.
I also signed up for a fat quarter swap. You may want to sign up, too. Find the info in my sidebar.
