I'm a little behind in my X-mas sewing. I just finished my sister's present. I've decided that I'm not going to be ruled by the calendar anymore (at least that's what I'm telling everyone). She got an ipad air and I made her a cute, little, zippered, sleeping bag for it and a messenger bag for her to put that into, too.
I love this fabric, Piper by Dear Stella, I mean, these colors? C'mon. Gorgeous. My sister loves purple, orange and green - I usually buy fabric for her around Halloween time. The green on the inside is a different line and I also had to use the glasses from Geekly Chic - so geeky and awesome. I used straight line quilting to add interest and the pattern is... well, there is no pattern. I made both items from my mind. I did look at some patterns and other designs, of course, but I didn't use a pattern to construct the bags. I just need to iron the whole thing and have her come and pick it up.
As I was struggling with making an adjustable strap, I found ChrisW Designs blog and her Bag Brag Tuesday posts. Great blog about bags - I enjoyed checking out all of the tutorials and there was a lot of helpful posts there, check it out. I will be linking up to her and to Sew Much Ado's We Did It Wednesday. I'll probably link up to Crazy Mom on Friday, too - since it is a finish (Whoo-hoo!!)
Make something today!

Yes! I made a roly poly!
I actually made a wearable garment - and it didn't turn out half bad.
I loved this pattern. It was so easy for a noob like myself. I was confused at first because I didn't quite understand how to take the pattern that was printed on nine sheets of paper and make it into one template for cutting. I figured out how to tape it together and then I traced the size pattern onto freezer paper so I could use that to cut my fabric. That worked very well (I love, love, love freezer paper!). I also had to learn how to make a button hole. My machine came with a button hole foot, but I didn't understand the 4-step buttonhole process. After I watched a few YouTube videos, I was ready to finish up. I did mess up a little because I planned to add pockets to this on both sides, but then I decided not to add pockets and I didn't cut the fabric in one piece, so there are side seams on my tunic that shouldn't be there. No big.
The fabric is a lightweight corduroy with a sweet bird pattern from Joann's. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and knew I wanted to use this fabric for the Roly Poly. The inner fabric is a solid purple, seersucker-ish lightweight cotton. The garment is reversible but the corduroy side is definitely cuter.

April Finishing Goal
Alright, alright, so I missed my goal setting for last month - I did complete a lot of stuff, though.
This month, I would love, love, love to finally finish quilting and bind Penelope's broken dishes quilt. I have basted it, it is just waiting to be quilted. I really want my girl to have a quilt that I made. Here is a photo of the top:
I had a lot of fun making the top and I would love to make another broken dishes quilt in the future, but this one has been waiting around since October to be completed. It's kind of an albatross at this point. I will be so happy when it is completed.
So... here's to me and let's hope that I can finish this quilt this month!! Can I get a woot-woot?
