I did manage make some bee blocks - one that I'm really proud of, too:
a paper-pieced star. |
I was so inspired by making this block that I just signed up for a paper-piecing bee. I can't wait to see how these blocks turn out. The only thing that I don't like so much about paper-piecing is that the technique seems to waste a lot of fabric - or you end up with a lot of small, oddly shaped scraps to use up. I will have to start making something with all my scraps - a project for another day.
In other news, my birthday is tomorrow and my last day of work will be May 10th. I'm really excited to get back to being a stay-at-home-mom. I think Penelope likes the idea, too. We will have a great summer filled with swimming and going to the zoo and the aquarium and the children's museum, etc... I can't wait.
This month, I plan to finish Penn's broken dishes quilt - I know I've said it before, but I'm really gonna do it this time. Linking up to the Year of Lovely Finishes.

Happy Birthday! Congrats on staying home! That's so important! I've only done one paper pieced block...not even an entire project. I like the technique for its precision and some awesome looking blocks can be made. Your broken dishes quilt is lovely. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, DeAnna. That broken dishes quilt top has been finished since October 2012. I really, really want to finish it, it just keeps getting put on the back burner.
DeletePaper-piecing is an "acquired taste" I would say. I was reluctant to do it, but I think part of practicing the technique will make my regular piecing better.
Thanks for stopping by.

I love the fabric you have chosen for your star!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Valerie. The solids bee has been a bit of a challenge since I usually focus on patterns. Choosing the right colors for a block is kinda hard. But it is helping me to see how colors play with each other.
